This team is primarily responsible for maintaining environmental compliance by assessing and mitigating potential impacts from mining. Due to the extensive dewatering effort at the mine site, Cortez is seeking an individual to maintain compliance with environmental monitoring and implement mitigation activities associated with site dewatering.At Nevada Gold Mines, we are committed to a safe work environment and sending every person home safe and healthy every day and leaving a sustainable legacy for our host communities.We offer a comprehensive benefits package including a medical, dental, and vision plan with company-sponsored medical clinics, a 401k retirement plan with an employer match, paid time off, a company stock purchase program, and much more!Primary Responsibilities:Collaborate with site and corporate hydrology teams to identify and address surface and groundwater quantity and quality impacts due to dewatering activities. Ensure regulatory compliance is maintained for the following programs: Groundwater Surface Water Management Plan, Integrated Monitoring Plan, Seeps & Springs Monitoring Plan, Contingency Mitigation Plan, Monitoring, Management, and Mitigation Plan, infiltration Water Pollution Control Permits and other associated water mitigation and monitoring plans, as assigned. Assist in the interpretation and reporting of monitoring data and findings. Conduct monitoring tasks to assess dewatering impacts using the site's established monitoring protocols and mitigation thresholds. This includes vegetation assessments, surface water flows and other monitoring criteria established in the mine's water monitoring programs. Ability to manage projects, adhere to budgets, and direct contractor work. Assess the effectiveness of water monitoring and mitigation measures. Ensure accurate collection and reporting of water and vegetation monitoring data, in accordance with the mine's quality assurance/quality control standards. Contribute to water management strategies. Oversee data management and generate regulatory reports. Comply with state and federal health and safety regulations, as well as company policies and procedures. Responsible for periodic after-hours on-call response to environmental incidents, as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Hydrology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science or another related fieldrequired.Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in hydrology, hydrogeology, engineering, and/or dewateringpreferred.One (1) to three (3) years direct experience in environmental compliance, including field sampling and monitoringpreferred.Experience with dewatering systems, hydrologic and hydrogeologic principles, and hydrologic modelingpreferred.Demonstrated ability to operate independently and in small multi-disciplinary teamsrequired.Experience with various surface and groundwater sampling and vegetation monitoring techniquespreferred.Familiarity with impacts of dewatering activities on groundwater and surface water/vegetationpreferred.Excellent computer skills (eg. MS Office, EQuIS, GIS or other data management/computer programs)required.Excellent safety record with ability to demonstrate safety leadershiprequired.Willing and able to work in adverse weather conditionsrequired. Familiarity with compliance systems and ISO 14001preferred.This position requires the ability to regularly walk over uneven, sloped, rocky, wet or icy ground and the ability to lift 40 or more pounds consistently and safely.
