Are you a skilled storyteller with a passion for visual communication? The Harris County Clerk's Office (HCCO) is seeking a talented Communications Specialist to join our dynamic Communications Department!

About the County Clerk's Office:
Led by County Clerk and Chief Election Official Teneshia Hudspeth, the Harris County Clerk's Office is responsible for recording and maintaining vital documents, including property records, marriage licenses, birth and death certificates, and more. As the largest county in Texas and the third-largest in the nation, our office plays a crucial role in ensuring the integrity of elections and providing essential services to the community.

About the Communications Department:
The Communications Department at HCCO plays a crucial role in our office by managing internal and external communications. From traditional public information tools to engaging social media strategies, we strive to keep the public informed about the services HCCO provides, as well as important election information. Our team also works closely with HCCO leadership to ensure timely and effective communication.

As a Communications Specialist, you will have the opportunity to showcase the important initiatives and achievements of the Harris County Clerk's Office through captivating images, engaging videos, and other multimedia content. From documenting election processes to highlighting community outreach efforts, you will play a key role in shaping the narrative of our office.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Create compelling graphics, images, and videos that effectively communicate the mission and key initiatives of the Harris County Clerk's Office.
Collaborate with internal teams to develop multimedia content that aligns with overall communication strategies and goals.
Capture and edit images and videos that tell the story of the office and its impact on the community.
Assist with website editing, with training provided as needed.
Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in multimedia storytelling to enhance the quality and impact of our content continuously.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and
Two (2) years of directly related hands-on experience in graphic design, video production, and photography.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong creative, analytical, and strategic thinking skills, along with the ability to manage demanding situations.
Ability to attend events that occur outside of typical working hours, including evenings and weekends.
Proficiency in Microsoft software applications including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Canva, and Adobe Creative Suite, i.e. (Illustrator, Photoshop, Lightroom, Premier).
Proactive, innovative, and creative in developing solutions and completing assignments.
Must be thoughtful and possess good judgment in managing various relationships and responsibilities.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team.

Previous experience working on a communications or media team is preferred.

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position.
Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, with occasional evenings, weekends and holidays as necessary.
Hours may vary based on the business needs of the HCCO.
This position primarily operates in a professional office environment.
The individual in this role uses standard office equipment such as computers, printers, scanners/copiers, and phones.
Compensation:
The base compensation for this position will be determined on the candidate's qualifications and the pay of other employees in the job function.
Total compensation includes attractive paid leave programs, health benefits, and retirement plans.
In addition, the position is eligible for the accrual of compensatory time off for hours worked over 40 in a workweek, consistent with Harris County personnel policies and procedures.

Located in downtown Houston

Physical and Mental Demands:
This is largely a sedentary role that requires standing or sitting for prolonged periods, exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body, repetitive motions requiring dexterity such as keyboarding that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers, communicating with others to exchange concepts and information, problem-solving, decision-making, organization, the ability to read/write, and the ability to manage workplace stressors such as adversarial interactions.
Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
