Responsibilities
• Ensure safe work practices are followed• Check production schedule or shop request list and plan work tasks• Study blueprints, drawings, manuals, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances• Accurately measure and identify dimensions on material for fabrication• Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, and materials on machines• Set controls to regulate machining factors or enter commands for computerized machine control• Start and observe machine operation, detecting malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining• Inspect finished workpieces to blueprints and quality standards• Maintain a clean and organized work area• Assist with directing work activities of support staff as necessary
Requirements
• High school diploma or GED preferred• Minimum two years experience operating CNC lathes and/or mills or Machinist Technical Certification• Ability to use overhead crane and forklift• Basic math skills and ability to read and interpret a tape measure, blueprints, and bills of material• Continued growth in lean knowledge and continuous improvement
Key Skills Needed
• CNC machine operation• Ability to read blueprints• Knowledge of machining processes• Ability to use measuring and inspection tools
