CHILD FIND SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST ( Limited Term Appointment- Year round calendar assignment) SUMMARY DESCRIPTION


Under the general supervision of the Special Education Administrator over Child Find, the Speech Language Pathologist will be assigned to an evaluation team and will implement school board policy regarding the educational curriculum of a particular instructional division and/or instructional unit.
EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES Planning and Preparation
Administer appropriate evaluations that enable eligibility teams to determine initial special education eligibility. Adhere to timelines consistent with federal and state regulations regarding consent, eligibility, and IEP development. Demonstrated knowledge of IEP development and familiarity with the online IEP system and electronic record system Utilize a strong time management system to ensure quality educational records are created in a timely manner. Develop coherent, individualized, and appropriate IEPs aligned with federal and state regulations and Common Core State Standards. Demonstrates mastery of content and pedagogy, knowledge of students and resources, typical developmental patterns of student, and characteristics of students with disabilities. Evaluation Environment and Instructional Practices
Creates an environment of respect and rapport while developing a climate that promotes positive learning conditions. Maintains a positive, orderly, safe, accessible, and academically focused learning, resource-rich environment. Demonstrates flexibility and responsiveness. Demonstrates cultural competency. Communicates learning expectations to students. Engages students in learning. Utilizes discussion and questioning techniques that will enable the team to properly evaluate the student. Embeds assessment through the use of play-based assessment practices. Demonstrates knowledge of strategies and accommodations to assist students with disabilities to access curriculum. Coordinates effectively with other service staff in providing student instruction. Professional Responsibilities
Maintains accurate records and IEPs as mandated by state and federal guidelines, within established timelines. Works collaboratively as part of an education/assessment team responsible for identifying, developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating individual objectives for assigned students. Demonstrates professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct. Supports, communicates, and works professionally with administrators, staff and community and follows all protocols consistent with the WCSD's procedures. Demonstrates professionalism and high-level communicative skills with community stakeholders. Makes a focused effort to promote meaningful participation of parents in the IEP process. Participates in a professional community. Participates in other job-related duties and activities related to the position as assigned. EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS


Education/Experience: Any combination of education/experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:


1. Equivalent to a Master's degree in the area of speech-language pathology is preferred;


OR
Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree is required AND


3. At least one-year school experience desirable.


Knowledge of: Using the assessments that may help in identifying a possible communication disorder, such as Receptive, Expressive, and Social Communication Assessment; Test of Integrated Language and Literacy Skills,Test of Language Development, Clinical Evaluation of Language Fundamentals, Test for Auditory Comprehension of Language, Goldman-Fristoe Test of Articulation, and other formalized assessment tools, as well as informal language and speech/articulation assessments; writing and interpreting an Individualized Education Plan; speech and language development as necessary for providing services; and files and records management, office procedures, and basic computer literacy is desirable.


Skill at: Communicating effectively both orally and in writing; working collaboratively with certified and classified personnel at various locations; developing goals and objectives for students eligible for speech and language intervention; implementing individual structured activities; maintaining accurate and complete records, files, and reports; and interacting effectively with all individuals contacted during the course of work.


Licenses/Certificates: Possession of, or ability to obtain a valid State of Nevada driver's license with a driving record acceptable to the District; possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Nevada Teaching License in Speech and Language Impairments. The ability to obtain a certificate of clinical competence through the national organization is preferred.
Physical Demands: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

Work Environment : The environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, libraries, residences, or commercial vehicles, e.g., use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.

Special Considerations: This is a limited term appointment with a three (3) year appointment with an adjusted year-round calendar and 10 extra contract days. Upon the end of the three years, the employee may have the opportunity to remain in the position for an additional term.

Salary Teacher's Salary Schedule
Salaries are subject to adjustment and may increase and decrease each fiscal year.
