We are seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to oversee our financial operations and contribute to our strategic vision, mission, and objectives. The CFO will play a pivotal role in maintaining financial integrity and ensuring that all financial practices align with legal standards and organizational goals. This role is based in Tucson, AZ, and is a vital part of our senior management team.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and oversee the annual budget, ensuring it aligns with organizational goals.
Prepare comprehensive financial reports, including the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) and Annual Financial Report (AFR), and ensure compliance with all statutory requirements.
Manage all financial reporting and reconciliation mandated by the Arizona Department of Education.
Maintain adherence to the practices and procedures set by the Governing Board, generally accepted accounting principles, and relevant statutes.
Build and sustain effective relationships with key external agencies such as the Arizona Department of Education, Auditor General's Office, and Pima County Treasurer's Office.
Regularly collaborate with school and department leaders to review financial status and optimize budget utilization.
Stay updated on legislative changes impacting school finance through active participation in professional bodies such as the Arizona Association of School Business Officials.
Lead, mentor, and assess the finance team, enhancing recruitment, training, and performance.
Provide comprehensive financial updates to the district administration and Governing Board.
Engage with the community and district staff to foster transparent communication regarding financial strategies and developments.
Conduct audits and investigate any financial discrepancies to maintain stringent financial security.
Manage the financial aspects of district initiatives, including construction projects and grant reconciliations.
Perform additional duties as required, ensuring the smooth operation of the finance department.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
Minimum of three years' experience in financial management within an educational or similar setting.
Proven leadership and supervisory skills.
Strong understanding of fund accounting, governmental accounting practices, and GAAP for governmental entities.
Knowledge of career and technical education funding is an advantage.
Must successfully pass a background check and have no felony convictions or convictions against children.
Immunization records according to state regulations, a negative TB test (within the past year), and a valid AZ driver's license are required.
Physical Requirements:
Frequent interaction with various stakeholders requiring clear communication.
Regular use of office equipment and computer systems.
Ability to occasionally move around the office and handle files and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
