The at is an academic program in which law students, supervised by the clinic's four teachers, represent asylum seekers in claims before the Asylum Office at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and proceedings in the immigration courts at the Justice Department's Executive Office for Immigration Review.
The Center desires to hire a professional office, Case and Docket Manager to manage day to day operations of the clinic and provide assistance, to the extent permitted by law, to the clinic's clients.
The Manager handles communication with prospective, current and past clients; maintains the clinic's docket; supervises several research assistants as they interview and screen prospective clients for possible intake; maintains the Center's files; prepares final versions of the clinic's educational manuals; provides a final review of students' evidentiary submissions to agencies and courts; and serves as the clinic's liaison with non-governmental organizations and court and agency staff.
As well, the Manager is primarily responsible for all office and clinic administrative tasks, including the ordering of office supplies; reservation of classrooms and office spaces for meetings and seminars; maintaining of our paper and electronic filing systems; processing reimbursements for teachers and students; maintaining budget records; and handling other clerical functions.
As a specialized paralegal, the Case & Docket Manager also provides services to the clinic's clients. Until the clinic is recognized as a legal services provider by the federal government and the Manager is certified as an accredited representative by the Board of Immigration Appeals, they will help clients fill out federal immigration forms such as applications for asylum and work authorization; assist them in obtaining needed social services; refer them to other agencies as appropriate; and may on occasion translate documents or interpret between Spanish and English.
Once fully accredited by the Board of Immigration Appeals and under the supervision of the clinic's attorneys, the Manager may conduct intake interviews, appear in immigration court for scheduling hearings or other legal proceedings, and serve serving some of the legal needs of immigrants for whom the clinic has won asylum, such as obtaining permission for their spouses and minor children to join them in the United States. As well, the Manager undertakes other similar tasks as are assigned by the clinic's directors. Duties include but are not limited to: Managing student needs Managing client needs Maintaining the clinic's budget Working with the management team to mediate client issues Supervising Research Assistants Work Interactions


The Case and Docket Manager has significant contact with clinic faculty, staff, and students as well as other Georgetown offices and the immigration courts. Additionally, they regularly serve as the first point of contact for students, faculty, and the public; and use their independent judgment to answer such inquiries, escalate them, or refer them to the proper individual.



Requirements and Qualifications College degree (BA or BS)5 years of experience Certification by the Board of Immigration Appeals as an accredited representative at the higher level of certification (that is, authorized to appear pro bono as a representative of clients in immigration court); or willingness to study to obtain certification Fluency in both English and Spanish Familiarity with Georgetown University and Law Center procedures or willingness to obtain such familiarity Computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and ability to do basic web research Willingness to become a notary public Work Mode Designation
