The Mold Design department designs tire molds based on specifications provided by the tire development engineers and according to Yokohama standards. The primary function of the Mold Design group is the use of CAD software tools for the creation of technical drawings to which tire molds will be manufactured. The group also coordinates the purchase of molds as needed. To carry out these functions the group coordinates with Yokohama's Product Planning department, Tire Development department, manufacturing plants, and mold manufacturers. The Level I CAD Engineer will work closely with the Development group to identify technical specifications and to participate in generating the CAD drawings necessary for procurement of experimental and production molds. The position requires proficiency in 2D and advanced 3D CAD software as well as an emphasis on outstanding customer service and careful attention to detail.
Work carefully with the customer to identify inputs, parameters, schedules, and other information required to produce an accurate mold. Using existing tire drawings, generate appropriate parametric CAD drawings for expansion sizes. Tire drawings will include features such as tire profiles, side walls with proper annotations, tread drawings with grooves and other features for sizes based upon an existing model size. Check and/or revise drawings for existing and expansion sizes. Provide additional support for the Development Engineering group as needed. Track and meet timing goals and then provide the customer with frequent updates and communication. Complete other tasks and support senior Mold designers as required. Good communication skills. Able to work well in a group and follow supervision. Strong technical competence. Proficient in the use of various 2D and 3D CAD Software programs such as CATIA, AutoCAD and/or CREO. Proficient use of Microsoft Office. Associates Degree in Computer Aided Drafting and/or Design. 3 – 5 Years experience preferred Must be able to remain in a stationary position, often sitting for prolonged periods of time while working on a computer. Ability to repeat motions that include the wrists, hands and/or fingers Occasionally work indoors in a warehouse environment where temperature regulation may be inconsistent, and where there is exposure to noise, and machinery. Employees must possess the ability to regularly lift, carry, push, pull and move materials and objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
