The Faculty of Arts and Sciences includes three schools: the College of Arts and Sciences , University College , and the Graduate School . Posting Summary This position reports to the Business Manager I of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Rutgers University-Camden, and is a part of the business office for the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Dean's Office. The Business Specialist is responsible for supporting a broad range of business operations and administrative activities including fiscal management, budget, accounting, financial reporting, and analyses. This position works to support the business manager in financial planning and the administration for multiple departments, programs, and initiatives. They will be responsible for developing financial models, preparing analyses and annual budgets, and monitoring operating funds to support financial operations and strategic planning efforts. They will assist the Business Manager in achieving financial objectives and reporting goals; will manage and analyze data; and prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end reports for internal and external purposes for key units within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, including, but not limited to departments, programs, centers, grant accounts, and offices. In addition, the Business Specialist will prepare and/or approve journal entries, reconciliations, requisitions, purchase orders, expense reports, payroll and cash transmittal as assigned by the Business Manager. They will support the Business Manager to accomplish year-end plans and executes transactions to maximize available resources. This position will be relied on to provide guidance on improvement of internal processes and to work towards those process improvements. Because this position works to ensures consistent reporting and adherence to federal and state financial reporting regulations and guidelines, in conformity with University's policies and procedures, the incumbent will be required to become a subject matter expert in a wide-array of policies and guidelines, and will be expected to understand the application of those policies and guidelines in their daily responsibilities. The Business Specialist will also be a business partner to Associate Deans, Department Chairs, Program Directors, Principal Investigators within the school and will be relied to provide valued partnership in the execution of financial and business operations goals. The Business Specialist will also frequently partner with various colleagues supporting business operations at Rutgers University-Camden so must have a collaborative spirit. Recruiting for two positions Position Status Full Time Hours Per Week 37.5 Daily Work Shift Day Work Arrangement Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. For details, please go to Seniority Unit Terms of Appointment Staff - 12 month Position Pension Eligibility ABP Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Requires a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and practices (GAAP). A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in a financial/accounting function required. Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Demonstrated ability in budgeting and financial reporting. Thorough knowledge of financial statement preparation in accordance with policies and accounting principles. Comprehensive knowledge of accounting, budget, and audit principles. Ability to anticipate, identify, and resolve complex financial issues. Written communication skills to prepare clear and concise correspondence, reports, and procedural documents at a level appropriate for the intended audience. Demonstrated competence in accounting and business practices to advise department professionals regarding cost effective management of their financial affairs. Ability to multi-task, prioritize tasks and manage own time to meet assigned deadlines and escalate impediments to Business Manager. Excellent communication skills to correspond with various levels of University's personnel and external groups to convey financial information to non-financial types. Skill in utilizing personal computer spreadsheet and word processing applications to prepare reports and presentations and analyze financial data. Familiarity with higher education environments Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance Equipment Utilized Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access; Cornerstone financial system; Cornerstone PeopleSoft Payroll System; Financial Aid Management Systems; Tableau. Physical Demands and Work Environment Position is largely sedentary and requires long periods of time utilizing computers.
