Position Summary: This position is responsible for the overall coordination and production processes of the Bindery department and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Directs incoming work to employees. Examines all materials produced by employees for quality defects. Ensures that work is completed in a timely manner and is in compliance with work order. Trains new employees in proper procedures and operation of machines. Cross-trains experienced employees to promote familiarity with and skill in operating various types of equipment. Performs minor maintenance/repairs on equipment or notifies service representative. Sets up, feeds and tends various bindery machines to collate, fold and bind printed materials as needed during rush jobs or to fill in for absent employees. Writes daily reports on work scheduled/completed by the staff.
Essential Functions
-Prioritize, schedule and delegate work assignments.
-Coordinate with other departments to maintain production schedules and schedule plant work flow, and meet production deadlines and ensure mailing drop dates are met.
-Emphasize inspection of products and processes, ensuring the meeting of quality standards in accordance with customer and company specifications.
-Schedule quick turnaround work without effecting already scheduled work.
-Assist in the set up of bindery equipment.
-Operate and troubleshoot cutters, folders, and stitchers.
-Act as a technical resource to the bindery department personnel and other departments to address and resolve inquiries and problems related to assigned functions.
-Ensure the maintenance of departmental housekeeping standards.
-Manage stock from digital to bindery areas.
-Ensure the training of new and present employees in the processes and methods required to achieve the company's standards for quality.
-Keep management informed on general conditions and on matters of importance which could impact quality, cost, safety, or employee morale.
-Ensure the completion of all required recordkeeping and reporting including disciplinary documentation for employees.
-Attend and actively participate in all assigned meetings and committees.
-Complete special projects as assigned.
Required Skills / Experience:
-Team player who can work in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
-Ability to learn the camera system.
-Ability to work flexible hours and weekends, as necessary.
-Knowledge of Microsoft Office and intermediate computer skills.
-Ability to spontaneously and creatively find alternative solutions.
-Thorough knowledge of all print processes from digital pre-press to finishing.
Preferred Education and Experience
-High School degree or equivalent.
-10 years experience operating and troubleshooting cutters, folders, and stitchers.
-5 years direct mailing experience.
-5 years management experience
