Position Summary: This is a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track faculty position. The successful candidate will teach elementary/middle school (K-8) literacy methods courses on a team responsible for a practicum-based program serving elementary education pre-student teachers. Preferred qualifications include the ability to teach courses in Early Childhood, Special Education, or Middle-Level Methods. The position also requires: 1) supervision of pre-student teachers in K-8 settings; 2) integrating appropriate technology into instruction; 3) advising undergraduate and graduate students; 4) working collaboratively on departmental, college, and university committees and K-8 partnerships; 5) other activities as assigned. Compensation is based on qualifications, including education and experience. The University expects engagement in scholarly activity, including research, scholarship, or creative endeavors that support its programs. The individual hired is expected to demonstrate a commitment to high-impact, research-based, practicum-embedded teaching. Opportunities exist for optional summer employment through teaching and research grants.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Required Qualifications: Education Requirements: Earned doctoral degree in literacy education or a related field by August 22, 2024 ( ABD with a confirmed completion date prior to the start of employment will be considered). Experience Requirements: Documented evidence of a minimum of three years of successful teaching experience in K-8 settings Demonstrated knowledge and experience in research-based literacy education and instruction Demonstrated experience in and commitment to preparing effective, culturally competent teachers to incorporate research-based teaching practices into literacy instruction within teacher education settings (and/or professional development settings) Qualifications Preferred: Demonstrated knowledge and experience in Early Childhood, Special Education, or Middle-Level Methods Demonstrated experience and an understanding of effective teaching and student engagement practices with undergraduate and graduate college students Evidence of expertise in preparing educators in language arts, K-8 (e.g., literacy coaching, training or professional development, writing instruction, literacy assessment, literacy program leadership) Demonstrated ability to advise undergraduate and graduate students Demonstrated ability to supervise pre-student and student teachers in practicum-based settings Demonstration of a beginning scholarly activity related to literacy education, teacher education, and development, or related areas Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate professionally orally and in writing Ability to collaborate as a team member Experience preparing teacher candidates for licensure assessments (e.g., Foundations of Reading Test [ FORT ], edTPA) Demonstrated experience with and commitment to working with diverse populations Special Instructions to Applicants: Applicants are required to apply online.
