Assist the Plant Manager with direction of the facilities operations to meet Safety, Quality, Production and Cost Objectives. Assist with implementation of all company policies at the site to ensure compliance. Key Duties: Perform duties of the Plant Manager during their absences. Supervise and direct the day-to-day operational activities of the facility. Troubleshoot / resolve / correct site safety, quality, and operational issues. Coordinate operations action with outside personnel as necessary to resolve plant issues; including quality, operability and regulatory concerns. Coordinate the proper disposal of any site hazardous waste with appropriate environmental and support personnel; document work as necessary. Participate in planning and support the start-up of new facilities placed into operation at the site. Coordinate and ensure safe and proper completion of major plant turn-arounds and maintenance projects. Assure proper completion of safety inspections; alert management to any issues; champion safety compliance at the site; enforce safety policy and actively participate in all safety initiatives. Implement the Emergency Response Plan as necessary and assist in/lead proper mitigation activities, as necessary. Exercise independent good judgment and discretion in resolving problems and conflicts. Drive cultural change with a continuous improvement mindset. Provide leadership and coaching to plant operators and maintenance personnel. Identify, evaluate, and implement cost saving ideas to optimize operations. Implement standards to assure compliance with company policy at the site; monitor, review and correct any site compliance issues. Will be required to become trained/certified in HAZWOPER, Emergency Response OSHA, EPA, RCRA and DOT regulations. Communicate clearly and tactfully, both verbally and in writing; Will work weekends and offshifts on an as needed basis. Required Skills, Experience, and Education: High School diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree in a scientific or industrial field preferred. 5 years progressive chemical plant/engineering experience; at least 2 years as an assistant plant manager or unit supervisor OR 5 years total progressive chemical plant experience; with at least 2 years of operational experience in the Westlake Plant OR BS in Chemical Engineering and 2 years of chemical plant experience. Strong analytical skills are required with a special emphasis on math and the ability to understand the fundamental scientific and engineering relationships that govern site operations. Strong equipment and chemical process troubleshooting skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong people skills required; must be comfortable working with people from the shop floor through the executive suite; must demonstrate integrity, consistency and conscientiousness. Computer literacy required - must be thoroughly versed in MS-Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook); Experience with Oracle preferred. Must be capable of working in a chemical plant environment – must be able to: lift approximately 50 lbs. wear any/all personal protective equipment required, including hardhat, safety glasses/goggles, work boots/shoes and appropriate respiratory protection. climb industrial ladders and stairs, several stories high.
