At Cracker Barrel, our mission is Pleasing People. The Asisstant Buyer assists the Buyer by conducting vendor follow-up and item sales review. Sets-up new items and identifies shipping packs; ensures item is set up appropriately. Assists Buyer in developing new items; calculates and determines initial order quantities. Coordinates and resolves shipment and packaging issues, and tracks missing invoices or late payments. Negotiates return to vendor and follow-through.
•Travels to major market shows with Buyer and some category-specific shows independently. Identifies, selects, and negotiates product for Buyer's final approval. Conducts vendor follow-up on product development and purchases to include reviewing purchase order, negotiating costs and price, and verifying nomenclature and specifications of purchase request as well as packaging and shipment attributes with vendor. Sets-up new item attributes. Places initial order and determines initial product allocation.
•Analyzes sales for all items. Determines profitability of product and makes recommendations to keep or discontinue the product, etc. Tracks order and sales on all new merchandise. Monitors status and location of new products.
•Reviews product sample and cold calls for Buyers. Reviews product for quality and Cracker Barrel standards; recommends product to Buyers. Assorts, finds, develops, submits product for final approval, and negotiates with vendors on initial cost. Confirms quantity, terms, packaging, marking, ticketing, and shipping for accepted items.
•Communicates product changes, problems, status of shipment, etc. to the stores. Communicates with the Distribution Center and individual stores on shipping and receiving issues; works together to develop more efficient and effective packaging attributes. Follows-up with vendor and negotiates packing changes.
•Completes special projects (i.e. develops line enhancements, purchases small categories, renegotiates "hot" items to increase profit margin, etc.).
Experience and Education
•High School diploma and 2-3 years retail management related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Cracker Barrel Retail Manager experience preferred. Knowledge and Skills
•Strong oral and written communication skills.
