The Department of African and African-American Studies seeks an Administrative Associate to assist the Chair in the following duties: managing general office operations, policies, and procedures; communicating with faculty, students, and other departments and administrative units; supervising undergraduate student hourly employees; coordinating curriculum and course scheduling; identifying and hiring lecturers; and working with Shared Services staff to oversee Departmental accounts and purchases.
The Administrative Associate supports the Department's Undergraduate Major and Minor, Languages Program, and M.A. Program. In the latter case, this work includes assisting with graduate admissions and Graduate Teaching Assistant assignments. The Administrative Associate supports the public programming and presence of the Department and two entities within the Department: The Langston Hughes Center and the Institute of Haitian Studies. Work also involves serving as a liaison between the Department and its allied Kansas African Studies Center. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with a diverse group of faculty, students, staff and campus visitors, and will value an equitable and inclusive workplace and learning environment. This is a fully in-person position; the successful candidate will be expected to work in the AAAS office in Bailey Hall.
