Responsibilities The primary purpose of the Graduate Research Education Program (GREP) is to provide a post-baccalaureate research experience that applies skills in science, technology, engineering or math to biomedical research including basic science or translational research.
Participants will gain research experience that will aid them in deciding on and/or obtaining opportunities in their chosen career path related to biomedical research. The experience will increase the GREP's competitiveness and preparation for their next career step. These goals are achieved by providing:
a mentored research experience in a world-class biomedical research laboratory participation in selected graduate classes and seminars to enhance understanding of and provide exposure to related research and career development tools, including networking opportunities presentation opportunities access to mentoring and guidance with next steps in career development GREP students must be engaged in a research project suitable for presentation/description for poster sessions, application letters, and interviews. They must not exclusively perform a general lab support role, e.g. genotyping.
GREP students should be available to attend monthly GREP meetings, seminars, and departmental lectures as workload allows.
Classes taken through MGS should be on personal time.
In general, GREPs are expected to be able to take at least one course per quarter if they desire. Time taken for courses are not paid for by labs. Monthly GREP meetings take place once a month for one hour and is paid time. Other work-related meetings (department seminars, etc.) are paid time. Other career development activities are not paid time. Qualifications Bachelor's degree with a strong background in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math Interest in biomedical research as a career Minimum GPA of 3.0 Authorization to work and remain in the United States, without necessity for Mayo Clinic sponsorship now, or in the future (for example, be a U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident, refugee or asylee). A current transcript submission required - unofficial transcripts will be accepted 1-2 sentence statement of research interest Students that do not meet these criteria do not qualify. **Applicants who are currently in Graduate or Medical School are not eligible** Exemption Status
