Description: This position is responsible for providing daily animal husbandry, including feeding, caring for and observing the physical condition different species (primarily rats and mice).
Medical Treatment: 10% of workload
Identify an illness or injury of animals and make preliminary diagnosis of condition
Use established Standards of Care to perform minor treatment and administer proper medications to the animals
Animal Husbandry: 65% of workload
Provide daily husbandry including feeding, caring for and observing the physical condition of lab animals for signs of disease or illness.
House incoming animals
Perform humane euthanasia at end of study
Operate cage and bottle washers, autoclaves and bedding dispensing and disposal equipment
Maintain Animal Rooms & Cage Wash Areas: 10% of workload
Clean and sterilize rooms
Complete daily, weekly and month tasks
Maintain environment data log
Remaining duties: 15% of workload
Maintain equipment and supplies for animal room sand cage wash areas.
Participate in department, college and company events, meetings and projects
Skills: animal husbandry, Animal handling, animal research, zoology, animal science
Additional Skills & Qualifications: Minimum HS Diploma
**Preference towards candidates with AA/AS in Veterinary Technology or BS in Animal Science or related
1+ year of experience within animal care (husbandry, medication administration, blood draws, etc.)
Must be comfortable working in preclinical research
Experience Level: Entry Level
