The City of Pflugerville is seeking its next Senior Accountant to join our team! As a Senior Accountant for the City, you will be performing complex accounting duties, including general ledger reconciliations, financial reporting, and record keeping. This position maintains a variety of accounts and subsidiary ledgers for various city functions.
Essential duties and responsibilities: Understand overall accounting functions and operations of the City. Performs professional accounting functions in compliance with generally accepted accounting practices. Posts data to various ledgers, registers journals and logs according to established accounting standards and procedures. Prepare financial statements and schedules, including various monthly or summary financial reports, for management, Council, and other departments. Evaluate budgets and purchases for capital improvement projects (CIP) and grants. Maintain and update CIP and grant records. Record financial transactions through journal entries. Review journal entries for inconsistencies and possible irregularities. Analyze and reconcile various general ledger accounts and financial reports including but not limited to accounts receivable, accounts payable, grants, capital projects, and bonds. Assist in preparation of the City's annual budget, audit, comprehensive annual financial report, popular annual financial report, and related documents. Develop or modify written procedures relating to departmental accounting processes and communicate with others. Prepare special reports or conduct research as requested by department management. Coordinate and review the work of others in the finance department to complete financial projects. Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and safety rules. Become thoroughly familiar with every aspect of departmental processes. Maintain confidentiality about all City business. Other related duties, as assigned. Qualifications and Skill Requirements: Formal Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
Relatable Work Experience: Three (3) years of experience in a finance or accounting role.
Preferred Qualifications: Certified Government Finance Officer (CGFO) or a similar certification. Experience in municipal government accounting.
Disclaimer: Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is define as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
