Job summary
The Scheduler position at Houston Methodist is responsible for providing consumers access to care and treatment through appointment-based availability of healthcare services at a designated facility.This position ensures quality patient surgical and/or ancillary services scheduling by acting as a liaison between patient, facility, and providers.The Scheduler may also pre-register patients timely in the electronic health record (EHR) to obtain pre-certification, authorization, and verification of insurance benefits.

Responsibilities
• Promotes a positive work environment and contributes to a dynamic team focused on achieving departmental and organizational results.• Serves as a liaison between patient, facility, and physicians to ensure timely, accurate, and appropriate scheduling of exams, tests, and procedures.• Communicates special requests and add-ons with appropriate department team as needed.• Schedules patients for services accurately on the appropriate schedule.• Obtains valid and compliant orders and schedules patients based on the physician order and department criteria.• Confirms patients' appointments, relays pre-appointment preparations, and arranges for necessary assistance.• Establishes/update hospital account records with patient demographic and insurance information.• Responds promptly to requests by staff, patients, and physicians; assists with resolving EHR work queues.• Communicates to resolve patient access and quality service matters.• Utilizes standard operating procedures to schedule patient appointments with thoroughness and timeliness.• Gathers demographic and insurance information for insurance verification and determination of patient's portion.• Organizes time effectively, sets priorities, and helps other team members in a medical setting or call center environment.• Seeks opportunities to expand learning beyond baseline competencies and generates new ideas to improve quality or service.
Requirements
• High School diploma or equivalent education• Two years of experience in a medical setting or call center environment• Medical scheduling experience preferred• Ability to speak, read, and write English proficiently• Effective communication skills with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers• Ability to multitask and adapt to the needs of patients, physicians, and department• Knowledge of registration/access functions and insurance procedures• Problem-solving skills• Basic understanding of medical terminology and diagnosis/procedural codes• Ability to remain calm in stressful situations• Excellent customer service and professional communication skills• Proficient computer skills and ability to learn and navigate multiple software programs• Accurate and rapid handling of detail work
