The Pulmonary Oncology program within the Clinical Research Division at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center seeks a motivated, engaged, and energetic candidate to begin work this summer at a world-class translational research center as a laboratory technician. This position will support a NIH project to examine molecular and cellular biomarkers in the blood and lung of patients at risk for, or with, lung cancer. The role will be primarily laboratory based and focus on analyzing human blood and lung samples with some patient engagement for sample collection. Essential tasks will include basic cell culture, flow cytometry, ELISA, and library preparation for a variety of sequencing platforms. Specific prior experience with some or all of these methods is preferred but not mandatory. General laboratory experience at the bench of 1 year during college or after is required. The identified candidate will also be responsible for day-to-day maintenance of the lab and the sample biorepository and work towards independently developing assays required for the research questions at hand. They will work closely with our clinical research team that enrolls patients on study, other labs doing similar work, and our core laboratories that assist with sample processing and storage. They will report directly to the PI who splits his time between the clinic and laboratory. This is a rare and unique opportunity to obtain skills for future training or to start a career in a highly collaborative and diverse human translational research program. Works under the direction of the Principal Investigator or higher-level laboratory personnel. Uses limited discretion and judgment in carrying out experiments.
JOB DUTIES Perform experiments at the bench level to support investigative work. Prepare and maintain laboratory reagents, stocks, cultures or cell lines. Perform and modify documented laboratory protocols and assays. Maintain laboratory records and compile data on experiments and assays. Interpret and report on experimental results. Perform statistical analysis of test results and prepare written reports on work performed. Operate and carry out basic maintenance of laboratory equipment. Order and maintain appropriate levels of supplies. May supervise work-study students. Perform other duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Research Tech 1 College graduate+ BA/BS in a medically related field One year+ of bench experience in college or following college Excellent communication and organizational skills Motivated, energetic, intellectually curious with a drive to learn Works well in diverse groups of high performing teams Flexible work hours based on experimental needs MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Research Tech 2 College graduate+ BA/BS in a medically related field Two years+ of bench experience in college or following college Independent research experience outside of laboratory course work is usually necessary Excellent communication and organizational skills Motivated, energetic, intellectually curious with a drive to learn Works well in diverse groups of high performing teams Flexible work hours based on experimental needs Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center has a mandatory COVID-19 vaccine requirement, with exceptions only for approved medical or religious accommodations. The hourly pay range for the I position is from $21.56 to $30.69 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.?? 
The hourly pay range for the II position is from $24.96 to $35.53 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.??
