The Business Process Consultant (intermediate) will work closely with nursing administration and nursing leadership to investigate and design solutions to complex needs related to required data elements, staffing flows, and payroll data.  The individual will serve as a subject matter expert in the use of utilized databases (Ansos), visualizations, and eventual training. Day-to-day activities include managing complex project deliverables that require collaboration across nursing stakeholder groups.  The individual may be responsible for all aspects of a design or project life-cycle, from research and design through implementation to project sustainment.
Priorities will be defined by the Department of Nursing and are in alignment with those of the Adult Hospitals, CW, and UMMG system priorities.
ANSOS Program Utilization Performs business analysis, using qualitative and quantitative methods to compare various courses of action, for departments and hospital operating segments; with a specific focus on areas such as operational performance, financial performance, and demand and resource alignment. Uses best practice consulting and informatics methods to draw conclusions and develop actionable recommendations that inform key leadership decisions. Supports effective discovery and design sessions with diverse, cross-functional stakeholder teams, and facilitates these teams in the design of tools, processes, and protocols. Employs process improvement and process reengineering methodologies to improve operational outcomes and enhance performance. Support ongoing training of the program. Project Management Uses formal problem identification and problem-solving techniques to create a shared vision. Applies knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to meet project requirements: scope, budget, quality, time, communications, change management, risk management, and stakeholder management. Effectively coordinates and facilitates planning and deliverables for projects. Prepares written communications and presentations for a variety of stakeholders. Ensures alignment of projects to institutional policies, standards, and benchmarks. Analytics and Data Science Uses methods in the areas of machine learning and artificial intelligence to build algorithms and perform data analytics, then uses the outputs to develop actionable recommendations to address business and operational challenges. Collects, validates, analyzes, and synthesizes data to support engagement objectives. Builds simple and informative data visualizations using Tableau or other data visualization tools. Coordinates new data development ensuring consistency and integration with existing warehouse structure. Bachelor's degree in a related science, engineering, or business field OR 8 or more years of healthcare project, clinical, facilities, and/or operations experience. Applied knowledge of analytic techniques such as descriptive analytics, statistical analysis, simulation modeling, time-series forecasting, hypothesis testing, and optimization Experience with intelligent automated tools and models Data mining with SQL querying language and experience in navigating relational databases to extract data Experience with integrating algorithms into business processes Visualization of findings with Tableau or similar BI Master's degree in Information Science, engineering, or business field Experience with using scripting languages to manipulate datasets C#, Java or similar enterprise level language for data exchange and integration of analytics or data into business processes. Experience using statistical programs such as R, SAS Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
